Help humans become their dogs best friend 🙋♀️🐶🙋♂️
For the last 30 000+ years, dogs have been humans’ best friends. Now, it’s time for us to become theirs. But it’s not as easy as it might sound. Today’s information society makes it hard to find validated and reliable knowledge. Opinions and beliefs can’t be told from facts, putting the welfare of dogs at risk.
During the pandemic the demand for puppies rose to alarming numbers. And now shelters are overcrowded with canines. People and dogs are struggling and Petli is here to help humans become their dogs best friend. We are now looking for new pack members to join us on our mission.
Who are we?
The Petli team is a gang of enthusiastic, positive and curious people. A pack of hard working huskies. And we’re going places. Nightfalls and blizzards can’t stop us. We are based in several countries and come from a variety of backgrounds. We believe this diversity enriches our problem solving skills and enables the creation of an inclusive product. In order for us to create a quality service to be reckoned with on a global market, we need more pack members. Are you who we are looking for?
Our mission is to build the all-in-one dog app of the future. We have intertwined science and tech and produced a gamified, personalized, easy to grasp tool. With the Petli app in hand, dog owners get instant access to a vast amount of validated knowledge in a simplified and fun format. Our product helps those interacting with or wanting to understand dogs on a deeper level as well as solving everyday dilemmas. A valuable tool for improving everyday life for both dogs and their fellow humans. This saves dog parents time, money and headaches while ensuring the welfare of dogs. At Petli, we believe in making the complex simple.
Petli was born in late 2020 when growth hacker and tech entrepreneur Shahin Baharan reached out to ethologist and dog psychologist Caroline Alupo. Shahin had recently tried to help his parents buy a dog and to do so he ploughed the net for information. He experienced a tangled web of scattered ”knowledge” that was unvalidated and possibly unreliable. The insight led to the idea of a digitized solution. A dog app where assured, qualitative knowledge is gathered in a fun and easy to grasp format. Caroline, who has worked in the dog industry for over 17 years and has a master’s degree in ethology, had encountered the same issue and considered it to risk the welfare of dogs. She has met thousands of dog parents seeking knowledge and training advice online often ending up with inaccurate information doing more harm than good.
United Caroline and Shahin had the solution to the problem. A fusion of tech and science. Together they founded Petli!
The Petli team is a pack of hard working huskies, positive, curious and passionate. We are based in several countries and come from a variety of backgrounds. We believe this diversity enriches our problem solving skills and teamwork. We have a very open and non-hierarchical company culture where everyone matters. We value each other as colleagues and friends and look out for one another. The Petli atmosphere is ego-free, honest and secure. Trust and accountability is key. Our united commitment to the product and user sets a goal oriented and passionate work standard.
We’re passionately devoted to our mission and Petli has a great opportunity to make it all happen. And we will. The coming years will be fun, challenging, innovating and empowering. These years will involve launching the app, growing the user base and continuing with non-stop analyzing data and iterating. All at a fast pace, because that’s the way we like it. Data-driven product development and obsessiveness in creating value for our users will be key. It’s our way of living life. This journey will expand the team rapidly and the Petli family will grow a lot. The journey we’ve got ahead of us will blow the roof of the pet industry.
Petli has a stable gang of angels and dragons behind us that have built unicorns themselves and believe in us. Of course a start-up is a start-up and it’s high variance. But we got the economical muscles we need to get where we’re going. The rest is up to us, the Petli team. We are in a situation where the ball is in our hands.
There are a few solid pillars in Petlis team work: clear goals, communication, transparency and honesty. Our teamwork is extremely selfless and very goal oriented. At Petli we set crystal clear goals, short and long term, we break them down into time estimated fractions. Nothing is hidden, all cards are on the table for everyone to see, question and challenge when needed. We encourage creative and critical thinking and love it when people speak their mind. We may change paths with new data, there can be sharp turns in our work process. As a team we love and tackle the curves and the straight stretches of the race together. At Petli we trust and believe in each other's skills and are comfortable with receiving and giving constructive feedback, a crucial part of our work process. Petlis teamwork oozes of positive energy, clear communication, support and understanding. Because we know the importance of each cogwheel. We look out for each other and support and help each other out. Our warm values, the heart of Petli, is a huge part of why our team work is successful.
At Petli we don’t talk much about leadership. Do we practise it? Maybe, but totally in our own way. We’re not fans of the boss and chief titles. Petli conducts a flat, open and non-hierarchical company culture. Our organizational norms promote and encourage everyone to teach and guide everyone. This leaves no confusion or aim less mischmasch. It’s simply the way a dog pack works heading towards the same goal. Of course we all have different responsibilities and abilities resulting in someone taking the lead now and again, choosing left from right, but never without everybody’s opinion being taken into consideration. At Petli taking that lead means plowing the field for fertilizers and seeders to do their thing. It’s about taking care of everyone, keeping the goal in sight, optimizing, encouraging and providing the team with whatever needed. That lead is for everyone. It’s not owned, it's deserved and most often the pack (all of us) choose a leader when one is needed. Someone with specific skills or know-how will be reached out to, asked for, when the project demands those specific skills. That's the way of the dog, so that's the way at Petli.
Don’t be a douch-bag without saying you’re sorry.
That depends on you and your dog. A dog brought to the office must be cared for outside of work hours, he/she must also feel secure enough to be calm and quiet not to disturb you, other dogs or your colleagues. Your dog also needs to be secure enough to handle you leaving the office to go to the bathroom or a meeting. Some dogs make excellent office dogs, some don’t. It’s a matter of training of course and this training is conducted by you and outside office hours. These guidelines are important for the welfare of dogs and our team members' peace of mind.
Not at all! You go, do your thing, you can work at Petli from any corner of the world. Diversity is our cup of tea and Petli loves the idea of having long arms hugging the globe. Sweden is Petlis' birthplace but who knows where this journey will take us all.
Since we are growing and don’t want to be spending time updating this every now and then. About 30-50% of the company will be sitting in the office full-time.
Absolutely, we may work hard but not without play. About once a month we get together for a laugh over good food. Often some from the remote part of the team joins in. A good night out or a calm dinner and conversations is our thing.
A polar dog who enjoys a good laugh once the harness is off kinda sums it up :) At Petli we value everyone's uniqueness. Be you and you’ll fit right in. We love diversity and favor a group of nerds, painters, coal miners, writers, masterminds, geeks and butchers. We enjoy a driven, creative colleague with initiative and a proactive mind. Someone as goal oriented as us who also likes a quick pace but knows there is more to life than work. But foremost, when you walk through the doors of Petli, just step inside, as you are, and you’ll fit right in.
This may vary from person to person. Some are early risers and others like working late. That's okay we go with the flow and don’t force people into boxes. Of course you’re expected to attend meetings and be available, do your hours and get your job done. We can agree on when.
You are entitled to 30 full days of vacation every year after completing one year at Petli.
We have Slack as our main channel for communication and Trello as one of our organization's project management tools. A sprint- and a retro meeting frames the week and we keep close contact as we work. Within each branch such as Tech, Content, Design there may be other communication tools to optimize contact, project management and conversation: emails, github, telephone or most often video calls.
We’re a close knitted team. Happy and healthy team members who thrive is our goal. Therefore one-on-ones are held bi-weekly. Once a year we will have performance appraisals where we go into details. We might look over contracts, deals, performance, expectations, future plans and needs.
At Petli we love education and personal development. We believe relevant teachings in all forms, books, courses and further training etc. to benefit team members growth and therefore Petlis progression. Further education, refinement of skills and knowhow is always encouraged at Petli.
For 20-40 thousand years, dog has been humans best friend... and now it’s time for us to become theirs. Our mission at Petli is to help people understand and communicate with their dog on a deeper level. The Petli app will help people become responsible dog parents from day one, in a fun and mobile format.
